Built for the show floor

Each project solved a real problem on a stand: an empty space, a product too big or too abstract to bring, or a crowd walking past. The spec line is the real timeline.

Castrol

Robot AR

Castrol's robotics lubrication stand was surrounded by robot manufacturers but had no robot of its own. A life-size six-axis arm in AR filled the space, with an X-ray mode showing the gearboxes Castrol's products protect, a stacking game with a prize leaderboard, and a narrative mode added later.

The X-ray mode was particularly appreciated for helping visualise where the gearboxes were in a robot.

Interactive Insulation

Built into the stand itself. Visitors turn a dial to add insulation around a pipe; the temperature readout changes and a speaker hidden in the plinth gets quieter as noise is damped. A simple idea that made a technical product feel like magic.

Castrol Industrial

In-between XR

A three-act mixed-reality journey on Apple Vision Pro for Castrol's Industrial team to run at events: an abstract introduction, an interactive platform floating in the clouds, and a recap standing in orbit around Earth. Additional languages were added in 2025.

We got people coming to the stand that wouldn't usually give it a second look, so it always looked really busy, which was great for leads.

Obex

Through-wall AR

For an event aimed at architects. A sticker on the floor becomes a hole a building rises out of; visitors pick wall materials and get a fire rating back, exploring Obex's product range as they go.

Format

Sep 2023 → Nov 2023
It went very well! We'll take the AR forward as a sales and training tool for visiting customers' offices or going on-site.

What I build

Pick the format by what your visitors should do, not by the technology. Everything can be rebranded and reused at your next show.

AR on tablets & phones

Life-size products on the stand floor, X-ray views, games with leaderboards. Hand an iPad to a visitor and they're in.

Castrol Robot · Obex · bp

Mixed reality

Apple Vision Pro and Quest experiences that stop people in the aisle. Ideal for products too big or too complex to ship.

VR training & demos

Let customers operate equipment you can't bring, then give the sales team the same build to take on the road.

Interactive installations

Dials, touchscreens, hand tracking and sound built into the stand architecture itself, designed around your builder's drawings.

About

Daniel Dolby

I'm a VR and AR developer, 3D artist and motion designer, and I've spent years building immersive work for global organisations, from concept and design through to deployment. My work has been featured on Channel 4.

Alongside events, I build immersive training. Most recently I rebuilt an Innovate UK-funded training simulation end to end: the environment, avatar, interface, AI voice, animation system and servers. I've also built a VR tool that records an instructor's movement and voice as a "ghost" that trainees can watch inside the headset (watch the demo).

Other clients include Fluor, Lloyd's Register, EMEC, ADNOC, Just Eat, Škoda, Barclays, Fine & Country and Yell.com.
